The Literacy Corner Inc. is led by founder Dana Haynes, a linguist and educator dedicated to helping children read. Graduating top of her Linguistics class at Simon Fraser University, she mastered language structure from the smallest phonetic units and up, which underpins the Orton Gillingham approach. With over two decades of English teaching experience, Dana effectively simplifies complex concepts, using her expertise in linguistics and multisensory techniques to drive our mission.
A Life-Changing Discovery
Dana’s journey took a pivotal turn when her stepson learned to read in just 10 days, thanks to two hours of daily tutoring. The approach his tutor used—a blend of linguistics, multisensory engagement, and structured practice—was strikingly familiar to Dana. Inspired, Dana dove deeper into these techniques. When she began applying them, the results were immediate and astonishing: children who had struggled for years advanced by leaps and bounds, sometimes in mere weeks. This ignited Dana’s passion to make this transformative instruction widely available, especially for families seeking affordable options.
Building The Literacy Corner
Driven by her vision, Dana founded The Literacy Corner Inc. to empower children with dyslexia and learning differences to read with confidence. She began training others, carefully selecting educators with experience in one-on-one support and a genuine knack for connecting with struggling learners. One by one, passionate tutors joined her. What started as in-person instruction soon grew to meet demand for online learning. Dana, ever determined, developed innovative ways to keep online sessions interactive and hands-on, ensuring the same powerful results.

When Covid hit, The Literacy Corner Inc. had already been online for over a year, ensuring a smooth transition. Parents were thrilled to see their children thriving in this format, often amazed at how much their children enjoyed it.
